SPORTSCOPE : Palos Verdes Wins Pop Warner U.S. Pee Wee Football Crown

The Palos Verdes Mavericks, composed of boys ages 11-12, defeated a team from Sunnyvale, 6-0, last week to win the national Pee Wee Division Pop Warner football title. The game was played in Mountain View. Palos Verdes recorded the only score with 38 seconds left in the game after an interception. The Mavericks finished with a 14-0 record. The team outscored its opponents 338-18. Players include K. C. Freer, Brad Hively, Nick Sandoval, Peter Borst, Mike Persichina, Adam Miller, Marty Cheatham, Damon Gourdine, Danny Malone, John Zuckerman, David Ebenhack, Chris Cameron, Tim Marsh, Andy Morse, Shaan Sethi, Nick Cadiz, Steven Todd, Scott Shimohara, Ben Lee, Morgan Slater, Jeremy Bartz, Douglas Haq, Steve Sheffield, Jason Chambers, Casey Hoorelbeke, David Haq, Tommy Fish, Chad MacAllister and Donnie Stager. The boys were coached by Gerald Peeke, Steve Facer, Lou Persichina and John Maloney.
Blind bodybuilder Otis Albert of Hawthorne won the Mr. Universe Handicapped Amateur title at the Aviation Auditorium. He also placed second in the open novice division. Albert, who says it is his goal to win the Mr. Universe title, competes again in April.
