MOSFET Settlement Approved: A bankruptcy court approved a $12.3-million payment by Siliconix Inc. to International Rectifier Corp. in El Segundo to settle a copyright infringement lawsuit involving IR’s MOSFET (electric power transmitter) patents. Earlier this year, a federal judge ruled that Siliconix had infringed on five patents for the transmitters made by IR. Santa Clara-based Siliconix filed for bankruptcy protection after the federal ruling, and the two companies agreed to the payment and an interim royalty-bearing license under IR’s patents. Siliconix’s settlement payment was approved along with its plan to reorganize. (Case No. 3-90-01275. Ruling Issued Dec. 10, 1990)
