$100-Million Mark Passed by ‘Home Alone’

The smash hit film “Home Alone” has passed the $100-million mark, hitting that benchmark faster than any other film this year, Twentieth Century-Fox said Tuesday.

“Home Alone,” which has led the nation’s box office for five consecutive weekends, pulled in $100.2 million in ticket sales in the 32 days since its release.

New Line Cinema’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” had previously been the fastest film to hit the $100-million barrier, needing 36 days.

Paramount’s “Ghost,” the year’s top grosser with $201.2 million, crossed the mark in 39 days, while Disney’s “Pretty Woman” hit that level in 52 days.

“Home Alone,” starring Macaulay Culkin as an 8-year-old boy accidentally left home while his family leaves for vacation, is one of just half a dozen other movies in the last decade that have grossed more than $10 million per weekend at the box-office during five separate weekends: “E.T.,” “Return of the Jedi,” “Ghostbusters,” “Beverly Hills Cop,” “Batman” and “Look Who’s Talking.”
