Three teen-agers who allegedly bungled four South Bay holdups in less than two hours were arrested Tuesday, police said.
Potential victims foiled the robbery attempts by claiming they had no money and speeding away in their cars.
“None of them are candidates for brain surgeons,” Sgt. Wally Moore said.
Victor Goldsmith, 18; Randy Rogers, 18, and a 15-year-old youth were booked for investigation of attempted robbery, Moore said. The three Hawthorne youths said they were gang members.
The string of robbery attempts began Monday night in Hermosa Beach when the trio allegedly tried to rob a man returning from a store, investigators said. It ended at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, when police stopped a car that matched descriptions given by witnesses.
