A 7-year-old boy was killed and his brother was injured Tuesday night when they were struck by a car in the 800 block of Florence Street in Southeast San Diego, officials said.
Efren Perez, 7, and his unidentified brother were struck at 7:22 p.m. while playing with a skateboard in the street, Deputy Coroner Everett Mauger said.
Efren, whose family lives in the 3800 block of Hemlock Street, was pronounced dead at the scene. His brother was taken to Children’s Hospital in stable condition, Mauger said. The boys’ father, Geraldo Perez, was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital with chest pains, Mauger said.
San Diego Police Sgt. Chuck Peck said the driver of the car appeared not to be at fault, although police suspect the driver was intoxicated.
