WASHINGTON — Vice President Dan Quayle will visit the U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia from Dec. 29 to Jan. 2, and meet with King Fahd, he said today.
Quayle will pay visits to all four branches of the U.S. military sent by President Bush to withstand Iraqi President Saddam Hussein’s military machine, said Quayle’s press secretary, David Beckwith.
He said the purpose of the trip will be to consult with the Saudis and build the morale of U.S. troops, who received a Thanksgiving visit from President Bush.
Quayle had considered a Christmas visit to the gulf, but that was ruled out for logistical reasons, aides said.
