William Hall, music director of the Master Chorale of Orange County, is among four conductors who will rehearse the Los Angeles Master Chorale next month in an audition for the post of music director, which John Currie leaves vacant at the end of this season. Joining Hall in the running for the job are: Simon Halsey, chorus master for the City of Birmingham Symphony; Paul Salamunovich, music director at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic church in North Hollywood; and, the newest name on the list of contenders, Thomas Somerville, professor of music at Occidental College. A search was launched a year ago, when Currie announced he would not seek renewal of his contract. According to a spokesman, the organization hopes to have a new director in place for next season.
