GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Unbeaten Estancia Wins Bolsa Grande Tournament

GARDEN GROVE — The Estancia High School girls’ basketball team ran its unbeaten streak to nine games, defeating Trabuco Hills, 73-48, in the finals of the Bolsa Grande Tournament Wednesday.
The Eagles took a 36-19 halftime lead on the shooting of Melody Earle, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, and forwards Patrice Lumpkin and Monique Sweet.
Estancia led, 56-29, late in the third quarter before Trabuco Hills made a 10-0 run, but the Eagles went on their own 14-0 run early in the fourth quarter.
Lumpkin has 21 points, Earle 20 and Sweet 18. Estancia shot 44.7% from the field and its man-to-man defense held Trabuco Hills (5-3) to 39.2%.
In other Bolsa Grande tournament games:
Capistrano Valley 49, Bolsa Grande 39--Angie White had 18 points for Capistrano Valley (6-2) in the third-place game. Judy Valenzuela had 15 for Bolsa Grande (4-4).
Newport Harbor 77, Laguna Hills 38--Center Maureen McLaren had 20 points for Newport Harbor (4-5) in a consolation game.
