An El Cajon couple whose 7-month-old daughter suffered a skull fracture and became blind have pleaded guilty to child abuse.
Linda Jean Clements, 18, entered a guilty plea to felony child abuse. Her husband, Stephen Lee Clements, 27, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor child abuse.
Linda Clements could receive a maxiumum of four years four-year when she is sentenced Jan. 15.
Stephen Clements asked San Diego Municipal Judge Lillian Lim on Tuesday to immediately sentence him, and she placed him on three years’ probation.
The baby, Tiffany Clements, was taken by her parents to a hospital Oct. 25 with a skull fracture.
The baby is still in a hospital, but the parents will be trying to retain custody of her in Juvenile Court proceedings later.
According to the couple’s arrest warrant declaration, the girl has a 10% chance of regaining her sight. She suffered retinal hemorrhages that are consistent with violent shaking, it said.
Linda Clements remains in Las Colinas Jail in Santee in lieu of $50,000 bail. She will receive a psychological evaluation before sentencing, said her attorney.
