Short Takes : Masur Receives European Award

FRANKFURT, Germany — Kurt Masur, who will become director of the New York Philharmonic next fall, has been named European of the Year by an international jury in Paris, the French weekly La Vie announced Tuesday.
Masur, 63, who is at present director of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig, was cited for his influence on the development of a peaceful revolution in East Germany.
He was selected in April to succeed the late Leonard Bernstein at the New York Philharmonic.
