SANTA ANITA : Frost Free Heads Field of 6 in 39th Palos Verdes Handicap

A field of six headed by Frost Free has been entered in Saturday’s $100,000-added Palos Verdes Handicap at Santa Anita.
Frost Free, who is unbeaten in five starts on Santa Anita’s main track, will be ridden by Chris McCarron and was assigned high weight of 119 pounds for the 39th running of the six-furlong race for horses of all ages.
Others entered were Valiant Pete, who will be ridden by Julio Garcia and was assigned 117 pounds; Burnt Hills, Eddie Delahoussaye, 115 pounds; Tanker Port, Jose Santos, 115 pounds; Exploding Prospect, Gary Stevens, 114 pounds, and Kipper Kelly, Corey Nakatani, 112 pounds.
If all six entries go to the post, the total purse will be $107,400 and the winner will earn $62,400.
Frost Free, a 5-year-old gelding, has won seven of 16 starts and earned $387,475. He is coming off a victory in the Vernon Underwood Handicap at Hollywood Park on Nov. 24.
Stevens will attempt to win the Palos Verdes race for the fifth straight time aboard Exploding Prospect.
After one dark day on Thursday, Santa Anita’s holiday racing schedule resumes today, and racing will be offered each day through New Year’s. Santa Anita will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 2, and will reopen Thursday.
