World IN BRIEF : GUATEMALA : U.S. Wants Mayor, 2 Others Extradited

The U.S. government announced it is seeking the extradition of the mayor of Zacapa, Guatemala, and two other men arrested in Guatemala’s largest cocaine seizure. Police on Thursday arrested Mayor Arnoldo Vargas Estrada, 52, Otto Evelio Quiro Davila, 34, and Victor Enrique Escobar Arias, 37, and seized 5,000 pounds of cocaine. The U.S. Embassy in Guatemala City said the Justice Department wants to prosecute the three on charges of smuggling and distributing drugs in the United States.
