Global Merger Activity Higher in 1990: Global mergers and acquisitions activity announced in 1990 climbed 8.1% from 1989, according to data compiled by IDD Information Services in New York. About 10,450 companies were targeted for acquisition. However, the value of these deals plunged to $361.2 billion, 45.4% less than in 1989. Geographically, the most significant surge in acquisitions was in Europe, up 40.3%. In contrast, M&A; activity in the United States fell 18.4% and the amount was off 51%.
