Nostalgia Hits Newport: Sure the hamburgers cost $6.75 and coffee is $1.25, but this is haute cuisine, Beverly Hills style, and it’s coming to Newport Beach.
The Daily Grill is due to open this month in Fashion Island, a nostalgic American food restaurant offering 1940s-style favorites at 1990s’ prices. The restaurant has been a hit in Beverly Hills since 1987, and its three owners are betting that the concept of a “San Francisco-style bar and grill” will work as well in other swanky locales.
The food is untrendy--from chicken pot pie to corned-beef hash. The restaurant also plans to offer a full wine list, 13 brands of beer and two mineral water selections. That way, diners can wash down a meat loaf sandwich with a 1986 Clos de Bois Merlot.
