California IN BRIEF : OAKLAND : Man Slain by Police Allegedly Drew Gun

Officers shot and killed a man they intended to question about public drinking when he pulled a semiautomatic pistol from his waistband, police said. Mario Blueford, 26, was drinking a bottle of cognac when he was approached by officers Gregory Rickman and Matthew Barber, police said. Blueford fled, then turned and pulled a weapon on the officers as they gave chase, police said. Officers fired three shots, striking Blueford, who was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
