Hearing on Montclair Prep Postponed by Southern Section

The Southern Section hearing involving the Montclair Prep football program has been moved to Feb. 15-16 at the school’s request. The hearing originally was scheduled for Jan. 15-16.
The section’s executive committee will evaluate charges against Montclair Prep that include grade tampering as well as nonpayment of tuition by athletes in its football program. If found guilty, Montclair Prep could face expulsion from the section.
Jeff York, a 6-foot-7, 250-pound defensive lineman from Dobbins, Calif., signed a letter of intent Thursday, becoming Cal State Northridge’s first recruit of 1991, Matador Coach Bob Burt announced.
York, a transfer from Yuba Junior College, will have junior eligibility with the Matadors in 1991 and is expected to help replace seniors Tom Berry and Eric Ahola on the defensive line.
Dmitri Young of Rio Mesa High has been selected the state’s top junior baseball player by the U. S. Baseball Federation.
Young, a senior shortstop, also has been rated the top high school prospect in the country by a national magazine.
The Agoura High girls’ cross-country team and the Hart High boys’ team, which each won state Division I championships in November, are ranked second and fourth, respectively, in The Harrier magazine’s final national poll. Camarillo, the runner-up in the state Division II boys’ championships, is ranked 22nd.
