Song Suit: Julio Iglesias mingled with fans and playfully cringed while listening to one of his old recordings Tuesday at the start of a court case challenging the copyright of his hit song “Hey.” The trial is being held in a New York federal court, where Alabama scientist and songwriter Henry Chia, has filed a lawsuit claiming the music for “Hey” was copied from a melody he wrote for a song, “Es,” in 1978. U.S. District Judge John F. Keenan, hearing the case without a jury, listened to several versions of the songs. Iglesias’ attorney, Robert Sugarman, said “Hey” and Chia’s song were “created independently.”
