LAGUNA NIGUEL — A 4-inch water main ruptured Tuesday night and flooded several floors of the Chet Holifield Federal Building in Laguna Niguel, fire officials said.
Neither the cause of the rupture nor a damage estimate was immediately determined.
More than 40 firefighters responded to 2400 Avila Road after receiving an automatic alarm at 10:10 p.m.
The water line apparently broke on the fifth floor of the seven-story building, commonly called the Ziggurat.
More than 150 gallons per minute were pumped through the water line, which was finally shut off about 30 minutes after the alarm, fire officials said.
“The water made quite a mess out there,” said a fire dispatcher.
