SHORT TAKES : Stolen Utrillo Painting Located

PARIS — A painting by Maurice Utrillo that was stolen five years ago from a private collector in Montreal has been recovered in Paris, police said today.
“Le Cabaret du Lapin Agil,” estimated to be worth about $400,000 and regarded as one of Utrillo’s finest works, was found in an art expert’s antique shop, they said.
Police said Joel Genest, 36, a Montreal restaurant owner, was being held for questioning.
Genest claimed he bought the painting for about $20,000 without knowing anything about its background or market value, police said.
