Sweetwater Schools Chief Steps Down

Embattled Sweetwater school district Supt. Anthony Trujillo resigned Thursday night after he and Sweetwater board members agreed to a financial settlement of his contract.
The board voted 4 to 1, with Nick Aguilar opposed, to pay Trujillo’s $116,000 annual salary through August, 1991; set up an early retirement plan and continue medical benefits for both Trujillo and his wife.
Trujillo had been expected to resign after three board members hostile to his 5 1/2-year service were elected in November. Trujillo’s leadership had been under fire for more than a year by various teachers, administrators and South Bay residents upset with his aggressive style.
