A motorcyclist was critically injured and his female passenger was killed Sunday when a Carlsbad man attempted to pass them and struck their bike, officials said.
Terrence Flood, 43, was driving south on California 79, a few vehicles behind the motorcycle, when the cyclists slowed to make a left turn, according to a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol.
Apparently impatient, Flood tried to pass on the left, just south of Mesa Grande, striking the Suzuki cycle with his Toyota, the CHP spokeswoman said.
The identities of the victims were not released Sunday.
