WASHINGTON — First Lady Barbara Bush was described as “feeling a little pain” but in good spirits today after breaking a bone in her left leg sledding with her grandchildren Sunday at the presidential retreat at Camp David, Md.
White House Press Secretary Marlin Fitzwater said, “I’m told she is uncomfortable but in good spirits.”
Anna Perez, the First Lady’s press secretary, said Mrs. Bush is “feeling a little pain” and was working from a wheelchair in the family quarters today.
“The prognosis is excellent for complete recovery,” Perez said. But she said the First Lady has been told to stay off her feet for three days, after which she will have to use crutches for the five or six weeks it takes to fully recover.
