Dreher Leads Cal’s First Pac-10 Victory

BERKELEY — Billy Dreher scored 19 points and Brian Hendrick added 16 as California earned its first Pacific 10 Conference victory of the season, defeating Washington, 70-68, Sunday at Harmon Arena.

Bill Elleby had 11 points for the Golden Bears (1-3 in the conference, 5-8 overall). Brent Merritt paced Washington (1-3, 9-4) with 22 points and Dion Brown added 16.

The score was tied, 54-54, with 8:35 remaining before the Bears ran off nine points and held the Huskies scoreless for more than five minutes, taking a 63-54 advantage on Dreher’s three-pointer with 4:30 to play.
