ATHENS, Ga. — Singer Kenny Rogers and his actress wife, Marianne, who were hosts of a fund-raising gala that raised $78,000 for a homeless shelter, will be guests of honor at the dedication ceremony Wednesday.
A month after the September weekend gala, which included sporting competitions between celebrities on their ranch near this town in northeast Georgia, a fan of the country music singer donated $35,000 toward the $220,000 cost to build the 4,000-square-foot shelter.
Capacity for the shelter, which is to open later this month, will be about 20.
