Beilstein, who led Orange County in field-goal percentage last season (67%), has continued to develop in his two roles--point and shooting guard. This year, he is shooting more--he has taken 111 more shots than he did all last season--and averaging 20.8 points and four assists for Tustin (15-2), the top-ranked team in the county. Last week, Beilstein, a three-year starter, scored 36 points in a 101-73 victory over University and 34 points in an 86-57 victory over Saddleback. “He could be averaging a lot more, but we feel we have a couple of other players who can put it in the hole,” Tustin Coach Tom McCluskey said. Other top performers:
J.J. Ballesteros, who scored 21 and 27 points for Mater Dei in Angelus League victories over Loyola (88-60) and Santa Margarita (76-61).
Jason Cunningham, who scored 29 points for Los Alamitos in an 86-73 victory over Katella and 21 points in a 72-64 victory over Cypress.
John Molle, who scored 27 points for Irvine in a 61-50 victory over San Clemente and 38 points in a 58-51 victory over Mission Viejo.
Neal Schuster, who had 13 saves in Brea-Olinda’s 1-0 soccer upset of then second-ranked Anaheim.
