James Warren, 71; Vintner, Son of Chief Justice Earl Warren

James Cleveland Warren, a Northern California vintner and son of Earl Warren, a governor of California before becoming chief justice of the United States, died Monday of cancer.
He was 71 when he died at his ranch in St. Helena, according to a spokesman for Morrison Funeral Chapel.
After wartime service in the South Pacific with the Marine Corps, Warren worked on his father’s unsuccessful campaign for vice president in 1948 and moved into the advertising field before relocating to the Napa Valley in the late 1950s. He established a real estate company specializing in vineyards and wineries and became a founding partner of the Freemark Abbey Winery.
Survivors include his wife, Maggie; three sons; his mother, Nina, now 97 and living in Washington; two brothers; two sisters and nine grandchildren.
