BRUSSELS — The European Community Commission said today that it will levy provisional anti-dumping duties on imports of small-screen color televisions from China and Hong Kong.
The duties will range from 2.1% to 17.4%. The duties are highest for Chinese exporters, officials said.
Small-screen televisions are defined as those with a diagonal screen measuring between six and 16 inches.
Last April, the 12-nation trade bloc imposed duties of up to 19.6% on small-screen color televisions imported from South Korea.
A commission statement said imports of the televisions in question from Hong Kong and China rose to 1.28 million sets in 1988 from 55,000 in 1985. This represented an increase in EC market share to 16.9% from 1.2%. EC industry saw its share of the market drop to 39% from 69% during the same period.
