‘Sarafina!’ Canceled: “Sarafina!” the South African musical that was to open at the historic Orpheum Theatre downtown on Jan. 30, has been canceled. “At least for now,” producer Joan Stein said Monday, adding that single ticket sales had dropped off the day after the Gulf War broke out and that “group sales commitments began to waver. Interest in the community did not waver, but International Exchange Foundation and the Los Angeles Historic Theatre Foundation, who are the presenters of the show, concluded this was not the most fortuitous time to bring it to Los Angeles.”
