Junior forward Tom Bruner made two free throws with eight seconds remaining to give The Master’s College an 80-79 victory over Fresno Pacific in an NAIA District 3 basketball game at Master’s on Tuesday.
Master’s had a chance to take the lead with 20 seconds to play, but time expired just before Damon Greer got off a shot. Fresno’s Scot Patterson was fouled immediately but missed the free throw, setting the stage for Bruner.
Bruner finished with 12 points and Stuart Epperson led the Mustangs with 20.
Master’s is off to its best start in 20 years at 13-6, 6-1 in district play.
Fresno Pacific had little trouble with the Mustangs’ matchup zone in the first half. Guard Troy Brown made four of seven three-point shots and finished with 25 points and Patterson hit six of 10 three-point shots and scored 22.
