The House voted unanimously to condemn Iraq’s missile attacks on Israel and commend the Jewish state for its restraint. A resolution also stated that CONGRESS recognizes Israel’s right to defend itself. It praised Israel’s “exceptional restraint” in the face of repeated Iraqi threats. PRESIDENT BUSH also reacted to the latest attack on Tel Aviv, telephoning Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir to express his outrage and thank Shamir for Israel’s continued restraint.
