YAOUNDE, Cameroon — Pupils searching for wood for their teacher accidentally set off a grenade that they mistook for a toy, killing four and wounding six others, Cameroon radio said today.
The government radio said the accident occurred Saturday at Ngaoundere, 250 miles northeast of Yaounde. The youngsters were studying at a Koran school for primary grade pupils. Muslim tradition calls for such pupils to provide firewood or food for their teachers.
The pupils found the grenade in the bush and set off the explosion when they thought it was a toy grenade, the radio said.
