Oshman’s to Lay Off Workers in Santa Ana: Hurt by a slowing economy and tough competition in the retail market, Houston-based Oshman’s Sporting Goods Inc. said it will lay off about half of its employees at its Santa Ana office and consolidate its two main divisions in California and Texas at its Houston headquarters. The layoffs will affect 60 to 117 employees, said Alvin Lubetkin, Oshman’s chief executive. There will be no further layoffs in 1991 at its California operations, a spokesman said. The firm has 70 stores in California.
