A federal grand jury indicted a defense contractor in Los Angeles Thursday on charges of defrauding the U.S. Department of Defense of more than $1 million on military contracts for parts used in strategic military aircraft.
Richard I. Silver, 37, of Scottsdale, Ariz., was accused of falsely billing the government for parts that his firm, Aerotech Industries of Canoga Park, had not supplied. He also was charged with numerous counts of mail fraud and use of false names.
Silver was arrested in Scottsdale late last year. If convicted on all charges, prosecutors said he faces a maximum sentence of 165 years in prison.
