Paying for War and Peace in Persian Gulf

Notwithstanding allied commander Gen. “Stormin’ Norman” Schwarzkopf’s assertions to the effect that U.S. forces are the “guys in the white hats,” I was horrified and sickened to read Mark Fineman’s article (“Refugees From Iraq Describe Hellish Scenes,” Feb. 5) quoting Iraqi refugees as they describe the incredible devastation our government is raining on the citizens of that country. The suffering President Bush has inflicted on a civilian population via 20,000-plus bombing sorties has already vastly exceeded any atrocity attributed to Iraq during its invasion of Kuwait, and there is no end in sight.
It should be increasingly obvious to everyone that the real Butcher of Baghdad lives in the White House.
