Annual Refuge Cleanup--A group from Amigos de Bolsa Chica will be assisting in the annual Seal Beach Wildlife Refuge Cleanup to be held Saturday. The event is sponsored by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Naval Weapons Station in Seal Beach, together with the Sierra Club and the El Dorado chapter of the National Audubon Society.
The work party lasts from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Those who participate and would like to stay for an afternoon tour of the refuge are asked to bring a sack lunch.
There are tightened security restrictions at the naval base for this year’s event, and people who have not signed up with the various sponsors will not be allowed to participate. For more information or to verify that you are on the sign-up list, call (213) 597-7491.
Audubon Sanctuaries Talk--Jesse Grantham, manager of the National Audubon Society’s Wetlands Sanctuary Program, will be the featured speaker at the Sea and Sage chapter’s general meeting Tuesday. He will discuss sanctuaries in the Gulf Coast region. Thousands of nesting water birds are protected in the 13,000-acre stretch of land and water between Louisiana and Mexico.
The meeting will be held at Willard Intermediate School, 1342 N. Ross St., Santa Ana. Call (714) 543-7393 for more information.
