Egypt Won’t Cancel Ties With Iraq Backers

CAIRO — Egyptian Foreign Minister Esmat Abdel Meguid said Tuesday his country will not cancel or downgrade its diplomatic ties with such Arab states as Jordan and Yemen and others for their support of Iraq in the Gulf War.
Jordan, Algeria, Yemen, Sudan and the Palestine Liberation Organization have taken sympathetic stands toward Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, but none of them sanctioned Iraq’s occupation and annexation of Kuwait.
