In the other Division IV game:
Coronado 49, Holtville 48--Coronado’s victory not only meant a fourth trip to the Division IV finals, it also meant a chance to finally avenge Holtville, the team which had defeated the Islanders for the title the last three years.
“It was our turn tonight,” Coronado Coach Bill Cass said. “It could have just as easily been Holtville.”
With 45 seconds remaining, Coronado’s Michelle Stevens made a basket on a fast break to tie the score, 48-48. Kristie Lukenbill made one of two free throws with eight seconds left to give the victory to Coronado (17-7). Holtville (16-8) made a desperation attempt at the buzzer but missed.
Lukenbill finished with 13 points and eight rebounds and Stevens made five steals in addition to her 11 points. Kris Skaalen had eight rebounds and five steals in addition to her seven points.
