World Boxing Council President Jose Sulaiman must face a judge for announcing that the WBC would strip Evander Holyfield of the heavyweight title and award it to the winner of its sanctioned March 18 bout between Mike Tyson and Razor Ruddock.
Lawyers for Holyfield and George Foreman obtained a show cause order that directs Sulaiman to appear next Thursday before New Jersey Superior Court Judge Amos C. Saunders and defend allegations that he violated a temporary restraining order issued last Nov. 27 against the WBC. Foreman and Holyfield are scheduled to fight on April 19.
Saunders ruled that the central matters of the case must be decided by an arbitrator and issued the order to prevent any action from being taken until the arbitrator’s decision.
