Fred Lebow, president of the New York Road Runners Club and director of the New York City Marathon, was listed in stable condition after having a malignant tumor removed from his thyroid. He is expected to be hospitalized until Monday. The thyroid problem is not related to the brain cancer Lebow suffered a year ago. Half of Lebow’s thyroid was removed during the surgery.
