Quincy Watts of USC, a three-time state sprint champion at Taft High, has been named the Pacific 10 Conference men’s track athlete of the week.
Watts ran a personal best of 45.59 seconds to win the 400 meters in a meet at UCLA on Saturday.
The time moved Watts to sixth on the all-time USC performer list.
Ken Stanley, the men’s volleyball coach at Pierce College, said Wednesday he has accepted a position on the U. S. Pan American Games coaching staff.
Stanley will assist Jim McLaughlin, the USC coach, with the men’s team at the Games this summer in Havana. Stanley’s Pierce teams won state championships in 1986 and 1988.
