Ex-Cubic Executive Pleads Guilty: C. C. (Sam) Wellborn, former chairman of San Diego-based Cubic Corp.’s Defense Systems subsidiary, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for conspiring to bribe a Pentagon official in an effort to win defense contracts. A federal judge in Alexandria, Va., also sentenced Wellborn to two years’ probation and a $15,000 fine. He pleaded guilty to giving money to a Washington consultant who allegedly used the funds to obtain sensitive Defense Department documents from a Pentagon procurement officer.
