Ex-Thai Premier Again Leaves for Europe Exile

BANGKOK, Thailand — Ousted Prime Minister Chatchai Choonhavan has left Thailand for indefinite exile in Europe after receiving a medal from the king but little else in the way of public support.
Chatchai was overthrown by his disgruntled armed forces in February after more than two years in power. He left Bangkok for London, then returned to Bangkok a week ago to receive an award from King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
The 68-year-old former diplomat failed to mobilize discontent with the military junta or generate nostalgia for his carefree brand of leadership, and left again for Europe on Thursday.
