Consolidated Freightways Inc., Palo Alto, named Donald E. Moffitt president and chief executive. Moffitt, currently executive vice president and chief financial officer, succeeds Raymond F. O’Brien as chief executive and J. Frank Leach as president. O’Brien, 68, who retired in April, 1988, but returned last July at the request of the company’s board, will remain chairman. Leach, 70, a board member for 17 years also became president last July. He was named vice chairman in the new realignment. Moffitt, a 34-year CF veteran, took early retirement in 1988 as vice chairman but returned last June to assume the company’s top financial post. Consolidated also named Robert H. Lawrence, 54, president of the company’s long-haul trucking CF Motor Freight unit, to the additional post of corporate executive vice president of operations.
