SEAL BEACH : City Not Financing Golf Course Project

The City Council passed a resolution last week saying it does not plan to use city funds to buy the Hellman Ranch property and turn it into a golf course.
The council majority--Frank Laszlo, Marilyn Bruce Hastings and Gwen Forsythe--favors a golf course and open space on the bulk of the property with commercial development only on a bluff along Seal Beach Boulevard.
They are supporting B-91, an advisory measure on the June ballot that would tell them to go ahead with such a plan.
But critics of that measure say the only way the Hellman Ranch parcel could become a golf course is if the city bought it. They favor A-91, a rival measure that would pave the way for a $200-million plan to put houses, parks and wetlands on the property.
The possibility that city funds might be used to fund developments mentioned in B-91 was suggested in ballot arguments and might emerge as a major campaign issue.
