Two men were shot in the knees as they slept beneath the Coronado Bridge early Tuesday morning in what police believe was a random drive-by shooting.
Police responding to a reported stabbing on 17th Street about 12:05 a.m. reported hearing gunshots, which led them to the 1700 block of Commercial Street, San Diego Police Department spokesman Bill Robinson said.
There they found Noel Gutierrez, 24, and Jorge Castillo, 33, both of whom were shot in the knee, Robinson said. The men were taken to UC San Diego Medical Center.
Castillo was in good condition Tuesday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said. No information was available on Gutierrez.
Police have no suspects and know no motive in the shooting.
