An Eagle Rock High School senior, who wants to be both a physicist and the next Vanna White, placed third in the California Citizen Bee competition.
Maureen Wan will travel to Washington June 22 to 26 with the first- and second-place winners from Southern California to compete in the National Citizen Bee Competition. Two winners from Northern California will also compete.
The individual competition in knowledge of American history and government is sponsored by the Washington-based Close Up Foundation.
The Foundation brings 122,000 high school students, teachers and others to the nation’s capital each year for weeklong seminars.
Wan, who plans to attend the University of Chicago, placed first at her school and in regional competition to qualify for the Southern California finals, which are sponsored by the Los Angeles Times.
