The Garfield High track team won its second straight city Southeastern Conference title last month. Garfield (8-0) is 15-0 over the past two seasons under Coach Carlos Jimenez, who has compiled a 56-8 record in nine seasons. The Bulldogs had not won a dual meet in five years before Jimenez took over in 1983. . . . Bell Gardens High School’s Erick Hurtarte has been selected as the soccer offensive Player of the Year in the Southern Section 2-A Division and his coach, Orlando Brenes, was named Coach of the Year. Hurtarte scored 21 goals in leading his team to a 22-3-2 record and the 2-A title. His brother, Gary, was also selected to the 2-A first team.
