Navy Awards Submarine Contract: General Dynamics Corp. won a $614.7-million contract to build the Navy’s second Seawolf attack submarine, a blow to Tenneco Inc. The Electric Boat division of General Dynamics at Groton, Conn., is building the first SSN-21 Seawolf, designed to dive deeper, move faster and run more quietly than current SSN-688 Los Angeles-class attack subs. The Navy wants up to 30 of the subs. Tenneco, which builds submarines at its Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Co. division in Virginia, has been competing with General Dynamics for work on the Seawolf program.
