An unidentified man was struck by a taxi and killed as he crossed a street early Friday, authorities said.
The man, who was walking across 5th Avenue at Upas Street, was hit at 1:59 a.m., San Diego police spokesman Bill Robinson said. He was taken Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The victim was a white male in his mid-20s, 5-foot-9 and 140 pounds with light brown hair and blue eyes, said county medical investigator Cal Vine. The man had an appendectomy scar and a small tattoo, of a heart with a dagger through it, on his right upper arm, Vine said. He was wearing black jeans, a black-and-yellow print shirt and a tan, windbreaker-style jacket, he said.
The taxi driver was not charged, Robinson said.
