COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : OCC Men’s Volleyball Team Stops Santa Barbara, Gains State Final

The Orange Coast men’s volleyball team moved into position to win its third consecutive State volleyball title by defeating Santa Barbara in four games in a semifinal match Friday at Los Angeles Pierce College.
OCC plays South Coast Conference rival Long Beach at 7:30 tonight in the title game.
OCC moved into the final with a a 15-7, 8-15, 15-12, 15-12 victory over Santa Barbara, which ends the season 16-3.
Ryan Van Rensellaer had 61 assists for OCC (21-3). Lance Lyons had 28 kills, Masui Allen had 23 and Austin Linford had 17 kills and eight blocks for OCC.
Long Beach defeated DeAnza, 15-11, 15-7, 15-10, in the other semifinal match.
OCC defeated Long Beach both times the teams met this season.
In the Orange Empire Conference men’s individual tennis tournament:
Krnac wins--Frank Krnac of Saddleback defeated Scott Hansen of Saddleback, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, in a No. 1 singles quarterfinal match. Krnac will meet Scott Clark of Saddleback, who defeated Eric Carlson of Riverside, 6-0, 6-0, in the another quarterfinal, today in the semifinals at Golden West. Esteban Saba of Saddleback and Steve Arnott of Golden West will meet in the other No. 1 singles semifinal.
Saba and Hansen advanced to the No. 1 doubles finals against Arnott and Jimmy Johnson of Golden West.
In the Orange Empire Conference women’s individual tennis tournament:
OCC, Cypress doubles teams advance--Dawn Baird and Michelle Jannone of Orange Coast defeated Dorothy Bryant and Jean Maroney of Cypress, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, in a doubles semifinal at Fullerton College. Ching Henson and Helen Lu of Cypress defeated Julie Ammon and Laura Lisack of Saddleback, 6-2, 6-1, in the other doubles semifinal.
Baird and Jannone will play Henson and Lu at 1 p.m. today. In the singles semifinals, Henson will play Jannone at 9 a.m. and Baird will play Stephanie Bruce of Riverside at 9 a.m. The singles finals will be at 11 a.m.
